The news came as a shock to all of Hillside Street. Number 27 was finally going to be occupied! The people were all anticipating their new neighbour's arrival, and they tried to guess what type of person it was. The old, dilapidated house with weeds creeping over the roofs...Who in their right mind would ever want to call it home? The mysterious part of it was, nobody knew.

Whoever it was that was going to move in must be very secretive, the people thought. Unlike the last time, there were no viewings of the house, no real estate agent, no clients. There had been absolutely no sign that someone was moving in, at least not until the builders started coming. Immediately, they were questioned by the curious citizens and journalists of the area's paper, hungry for new stories. They seemed to know nothing of the entire business as well, and even if they did, there was no forcing them to tell. This way, the builders hammered away, the moving van came and went, the lights in the house went on at dark and off in the day, and even the chimney started smoking. The new neighbour had moved in without anybody even knowing who he or she was.

The neighbourhood was full of curious people, and everybody wanted answers. Why wouldn't the new neighbour reveal their identity? Why wasn't there even any sound of human conversation from inside the house? Why? The children were the most curious, and often stood on one another trying to peek into the mysterious neighbour's window. In particular, there was one girl who was the most curious about this affair. That girl was Aurora Vine, the known 'braniac' in Hillside Elementary, the town school.
