The house on 27th Hillside Street had always been unoccupied. In fact, it had been for so long that it was thought to be haunted. The house was in a real mess, and it would make anybody shudder to think of the piles of dead insects, dirt and grime that had accumulated over the years. The backyard was claimed by unruly weeds of all sorts, and they seemed to make the house seem even emptier and unwanted than it already did. It stood out in stark contrast to all the other pretty houses around it.
As the story goes, the house was once occupied by an elderly couple twenty years ago, who had moved to a pretty little cottage by the seaside, and put the house up for sale. It had all been the usual procedures: A real estate agent, interested clients, the usual builders and workmen were scheduled to come renovate the house. What was unusual was that they never arrived. It seemed as if everybody had just, somehow or other, forgotten the whole matter, and the house stood empty for two decades.
There had been much gossip in town after that mysterious event, but after so long, even the busybodies had tired of that topic, and everybody went back to their regular lifestyles as if nothing had happenned. Occasionally, there would be kids asking the adults about the house, and they would tell the story all over again, but that was all. What the people didn't know was that it wouldn't stay empty for much longer.Labels: 27th Hillside Street
